Funny Christmas Stories
That Will Make You Smile

Who doesn't love to laugh? Well, then read some funny Christmas stories this Christmas! They will at least make you smile, or snicker, or grin.

Take a break from the busyness and stress of all the Christmas activities and settle down with some light hearted Christmas stories.

Here are some of my favorite Christmas stories that will make you laugh out loud! Enjoy them!

Funny Christmas stories

1) Skipping Christmas by John Grisham - one of my favorite authors (The Pelican Brief, The Rainmaker, A Time To Kill, The Firm, Playing for Pizza...) wrote this humorous story of a family that decides to forgo all the Christmas festivities, and all its related expenses, and use the money they save on a vacation for themselves. Good idea in theory, right? See what happens... Funny Christmas story. Much better than the movie rendition called Christmas with the Kranks.

2) Christmas Letters by Debbie Macomber - an adorable romantic comedy about a woman named Katherine, who writes other peoples Christmas letters for a living. She happens to meet a famous child pychologist whose child rearing method of "no boundaries for kids" is at serious odds with Katherine. The debate and the romance begin! It's warm, cute, romantic and one of my favorite Christmas stories. Read it or read Debbie Macombers other Christmas novels, like Christmas Wishes, On a Snowy Night, The Perfect Christmas - all are humorous and really good light reading!

3) The Shepherd, the Angel, and Walter the Christmas Miracle Dog by Dave Barry - A very funny Christmas story that will have you thinking of all the Christmas pageants you've been in or been to. And of course everyone knows - what could go wrong will go wrong. Especially when you take your new shelter dog to the pagaent - he just wreaks havoc!

4) In God We Trust: All Others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd - The classical Christmas movie "The Christmas Story" was partly based on this book. Read this and go back in time to the 1950's in Indiana when life was simpler, clean and fun. It's a satirical walk down memory lane with many hilarious moments about being a young boy living in a small town in the Midwest with glorious Christmas Day fast approaching...

5) Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris - A collection of very funny Christmas stories by well known humorist David Sedaris. For example - there's "Santaland Dairies" that he wrote about his experiences working as an elf at Macy's - so entertaining. Also, in the collection is "Dinah, the Christmas Whore" where as a young David, he begins to see his own family with a new perspective.

6) An Idiot Girl's Christmas by Laurie Notaro - If you like sarcasm, then you will love reading this book of short stories - all centered around the author's experiences and interactions with her family around the Christmas holidays. I think we can all relate to some of the interesting situations that come up!
