The Best Holiday Ham Recipes
HAM is the traditional Christmas dinner. I've collected
the best Holiday Ham recipes and share them here with you. Ham is also my personal favorite
Hams are made from the leg of the pig - either the butt end or the shank. The butt end usually has more meat and fat,
while the shank end may have a sweeter meat. Hams are sold boneless or bone-in. Bone-in hams
usually have more flavor and you can use the bones later for soups and stews for flavoring.
Boneless are popular because they are very easy to carve.
Most people usually purchase pre-cooked hams like a spiral sliced ham. You can serve them
cold or reheat them. They are easy to carve since they are already sliced. I prefer them reheated,
but you need to be careful not to dry them out in the reheating process.
They need to be reheated at a low temp and slowly to prevent losing the
ham's natural juices.
TIP: You can save some money by getting a precooked ham that is NOT sliced.
After letting the reheated ham rest for 10 minutes, it's real easy to carve the ham with
an electric knife.
To reheat a spiral sliced ham, place the ham cut side down on heavy duty aluminum foil and wrap
the ham tightly. Bake in a preheated 325 degree F oven for about 10 - 11 minutes per pound.
To glaze the ham, remove the foil in last 15 minutes of heating and apply the glaze. Let the
ham stand for 10 minutes before carving.
The sweetness of the brown sugar and the spicyness of the hot-pepper spread make for a very
interesting, delectable combination!
1 pre-cooked 7 - 8 pound spiral sliced ham (bone in)
Combine hot pepper spread, sugar, lime juice, cilantro, and garlic in a bowl.
Microwave until spread melts. Reserve 1 cup to be used as sauce later.
Cook spiral-sliced ham according to reheat instructions above for 45 minutes. Uncover and
brush on hot-pepper glaze. Bake for last 15 minutes uncovered. Let stand for 10 minutes and serve
with reserved sauce.
TIP: To decorate this Holiday Ham recipe, try pineapple rings on top of the ham,
staked with a
toothpick and a marachino cherry in the center of each ring. Gorgeous!
1/2 bone in pre-cooked ham (6-7 pounds)
Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Place the ham in a roasting pan. Add apple and orange juice to pan. Loosely cover ham with foil. Bake for 1 hour.
Combine the marmalade, brown sugar, mustard and pepper and brush some over the ham.
Bake uncovered until heated through about 50 minutes or until instant read thermometer registers
140 degrees. Occasionally brush with remaining glaze. Let stand 10 minutes before
TIP: For this Orange Glazed Holiday Ham recipe, try garnishing the ham after its
done with orange slices cut in half applied in an overlapping pattern and held in place with
whole cloves. Very pretty!
TIP: For a special touch to your Holiday Ham recipe, you can score the ham making
several light slices at a diagnol, then
add more light scores at a criss cross to the diagnol lines making a diamond pattern. Add a
whole cloves in the points of each diamond shape on the ham.
Just place the ham in your slow cooker and add your glaze on top. Add about 1/2 cup of liquid -
water, chicken broth, apple or orange juice. Cover and slow cook on low setting
for about 5-8 hours till it is heated through.
If you desire a carmelized glaze on your Holiday Ham recipes, just cover the ham with more glaze and
place under broiler for about 10 minutes. Watch it carefully though so it doesn't burn.
I made this slow cooker Holiday Ham recipe for my husband's family's annual Christmas party
that was at our house this year. It was moist and delicious and best of all so easy! They loved it - no leftovers! And I was
free to do other things while the ham slow cooked for 6 hours!
