The Best Holiday Ham Recipes

HAM is the traditional Christmas dinner. I've collected the best Holiday Ham recipes and share them here with you. Ham is also my personal favorite Holiday meal!

Hams are made from the leg of the pig - either the butt end or the shank. The butt end usually has more meat and fat, while the shank end may have a sweeter meat. Hams are sold boneless or bone-in. Bone-in hams usually have more flavor and you can use the bones later for soups and stews for flavoring. Boneless are popular because they are very easy to carve.

Most people usually purchase pre-cooked hams like a spiral sliced ham. You can serve them cold or reheat them. They are easy to carve since they are already sliced. I prefer them reheated, but you need to be careful not to dry them out in the reheating process.

They need to be reheated at a low temp and slowly to prevent losing the ham's natural juices.

TIP: You can save some money by getting a precooked ham that is NOT sliced. After letting the reheated ham rest for 10 minutes, it's real easy to carve the ham with an electric knife.

To reheat a spiral sliced ham, place the ham cut side down on heavy duty aluminum foil and wrap the ham tightly. Bake in a preheated 325 degree F oven for about 10 - 11 minutes per pound.

To glaze the ham, remove the foil in last 15 minutes of heating and apply the glaze. Let the ham stand for 10 minutes before carving.

Another cooking method for Holiday Ham recipes and a sure fire way to get a moist and tender ham is to slow-cook it in a slow cooker.

Just place the ham in your slow cooker and add your glaze on top. Add about 1/2 cup of liquid - water, chicken broth, apple or orange juice. Cover and slow cook on low setting for about 5-8 hours till it is heated through.

If you desire a carmelized glaze on your Holiday Ham recipes, just cover the ham with more glaze and place under broiler for about 10 minutes. Watch it carefully though so it doesn't burn.
